Tom DeMatteo
Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel and Secretary, ABC Bus Companies, Inc.
Tom DeMatteo joined ABC Bus Companies, Inc. in 1996, a nationwide distributor for charter, transit and mid-size buses. ABC also has one of the leading leasing and finance companies in the motorcoach industry. He is responsible for all legal affairs of the company, including nationwide litigation management, international business transactions, distribution and sales contracts, leasing and secured transactions, real estate, employment law and regulatory affairs. Tom was appointed interim Chief Operating Officer of ABC following the death of the CEO and subsequent realignment of senior management. ABC has 11 locations around the country.
He is an honors graduate of Hamline University School of Law and was also an adjunct professor for the corporate counsel program at Hamline for over 10 years. Tom was Editor-in-Chief of the Hamline Journal of Public Law and Policy and has also published an article titled, “Minnesota’s Employee Right to Know Act: A Manager’s Guide to Compliance”. Tom periodically writes a legal column for Bus & Motorcoach News.
Tom was formerly chair of the City of Afton’s Planning Commission and was on its Personnel Administration Committee. Tom is also on the Legislative Committee of the United Motorcoach Association, a Washington, D.C. based trade association for charter and tour companies. Tom was Chair of the Client Leadership Counsel for USLAW, a national network of leading U.S. law firms during 2014-2016, and Vice Chair from 2012-2013.
